Andy will integrate technology into the classroom at the Monhegan Island School.  Working with the Maine Laptop Technology Initiative, he will weave in place-based education and experiential learning.  He will also assist with physical education, after-school programming, and will teach music, art, and foreign language.  During the summer months, he will undertake rehabilitation and stewardship projects with the Monhegan Plantation Cemetery, recruiting volunteers, and researching funding sources for renovation and historical preservation.

Andy is originally from Virginia, but calls Maine home.  He received his B.A. in Environmental Studies with a minor in Music from Bates College, Lewiston, Maine.  He studied intensively for a semester in Bamfield, British Columbia, Canada, in terrestrial and marine ecology and resource management.  One summer break he was a camp counselor/student assistant with the Maine Audubon Camp at Hog Island.    Andy has worked as a senior staff naturalist with the Ferry Beach Ecology School, where he taught five-day residential coastal ecology programs for students in grades 1 through 8, and spent two summers as a program leader for the Summer Field Studies for Children at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine.  Andy also worked as a winter naturalist at the Gore Range Natural Science School in Avon, CO.
