Kate will be working with the Long Island Community Center Comprehensive Planning Committee on rehabilitation projects to update the building and make it more energy efficient. She will collaborate with organizations on grant-writing workshops and help with recreation-center programming, as well as with the Year-Round Housing Corporation on affordable housing projects.
A native of Phippsburg, Maine, Kate received her B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communications with a concentration in Spanish in 2007 from Saint Michael's College, Colchester, Vermont. At college, Kate was the executive editor of The Echo, Saint Michael's College online news magazine, and also participated in the School for International Training Cultural Landscapes in the Arts in 2005 in Granada, Spain. In 2006, she was a Creative Services Intern for WHDH-TV in Boston where she participated in Final Cut and Avid editing sessions.
Kate recently worked as a web editor and reporter for Current Publishing in Westbrook, Maine. She reported, wrote and edited daily news for the newspaper's website, and edited photos, video and audio for multimedia packages. She has worked as a lighthouse caretaker on Seguin Island, and she was the editor and producer for a short documentary film, "Alpha Girls: Making Mean Girls."
