Publications
For 25 years, Island Journal has been the face of the Island Institute throughout Maine and beyond its borders. In addition to this acclaimed yearly magazine of island life, the Institute has published The Working Waterfront newspaper for more than 17 years, as well as several books and countless other reports, "white papers" and other publications. In fact, our members tell us that they eagerly await each issue of The Working Waterfront, and proudly show off their collection of Island Journals. These publications are an essential part of our mission and define us in the eyes of all who read them.

The Working Waterfront
Since its launch in 1993, The Working Waterfront newspaper has earned a reputation for being “essential reading” for anyone who wants to be well-informed about the issues important to Maine’s year-round islands and working-waterfront communities. Incorporating the Inter-Island News, with its fascinating glimpses of life on-island, as well as articles on a wide range of local, state and regional issues by an outstanding cadre of community journalists, the WW appears 11 times a year (no January issue). You can order a subscription or pick it up at dozens of sites along the coast; either way, you’ll join 40,000 other loyal readers who count on the WW to keep them “in the know.”
