The Midcoast Fishermen’s Association and the Island Institute have released the initial results of their collaborative work, including: changing policy to support fishing communities and conserve fisheries, research that supports gear changes that reduce bycatch and innovative marketing and branding strategies that directly involve local consumers in conserving the resource while paying fishermen more for their product.
The MFA is one of Maine’s leading voices for stemming the tide, rebuilding fish stocks, and preserving our traditional fishing communities. By fostering innovative approaches that protect our marine resources while allowing fishing businesses to be profitable, MFA has garnered the support of the region’s conservation community.
