Small businesses everywhere are struggling to make sense of the current world. With rapidly changing laws, federal aid, and employment options, they are trying to figure out what is best for their business, their employees, and the world at large.
To understand how these businesses are doing, we are launching a series of Commercial Currents interviews. These are pre-recorded, short conversations designed to check in with our local businesses, understand their concerns, and also hear what is working well and where the bright spots are in this confusing world.
The first interview is with Melissa Raftery and Megan Wood of 44 North Coffee in Deer Isle-Stonington. They have figured out a phone order, curbside pick-up system to help them continue to operate, and they are leveraging their social media following to help increase online sales. They also feel very lucky to be able to employ a group of hard-working, fast-thinking women year-round.
