ROCKPORT – The Island Institute, a community development nonprofit based in Rockland, will host a special, climate-focused film event at the Shotwell Drive-in, 40 West Street in Rockport, on Wednesday, July 28th at 8:30 p.m. “The Climate, Our Coast, and Our Communities” will feature an evening of films highlighting personal stories from those living on the frontlines of climate change and leading the way in planning for change and creating solutions.
The evening will showcase a series of four short films and one feature film focusing on issues affecting coastlines and communities everywhere, and the impact that people of all ages can have in building a better future.
The shorts:
- Patagonia’s Voices for the Ocean
- Kids vs Global Warming from Young Voices for the Planet
- A Climate of Change: Sea Level Rise from the Island Institute
- The animated short, Sea Level Rise: It’s Happening, from the Island Institute and O’Chang Comics/Puckerbrush Animation
Feature film:
- 2040
The feature film, 2040, follows award-winning director Damon Gameau as he embarks on a journey to explore what the future could look like by the year 2040 if we simply embraced the best solutions already available to us to improve our planet and shifted them rapidly into the mainstream. Structured as a visual letter to his 4-year-old daughter, the film combines traditional documentary storytelling with dramatized sequences and high-end visual effects to create a vision board of how these solutions could regenerate the world for future generations.
Through personal stories and moving visuals, each of the films highlight the impact that every individual can have on the issues facing our communities and coasts and offer solutions for a climate-positive future.
Admission is $15 per vehicle. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the films start at 8:30 p.m. Food will be available for purchase from Cold Toes Tacos. Space is limited, and advance ticket purchase is required. There will be no tickets sold onsite.
