Senator Angus King (D-ME) and FCC commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel wrote an op-ed in Roll Call on December 10th, 2014 advocating for a new, modernized version of the E-Rate program. They credit the current version of E-Rate with bringing internet connectivity to the nation’s schools. As an example of the good work enabled by E-Rate, Senator King and Commissioner Rosenworcel cite the Teaching and Learning Collaborative, which is coordinated by the Island Institute and led by teachers on Maine’s outer islands:
In remote island communities, through the Outer Islands Teaching and Learning Collaborative, technology enables teachers and students in one- and two-room schools to learn and work together virtually.
