We recognize that leadership comes from within and is key to maintaining social resilience in times of change. Through our investment in workforce pathways, leadership training, and our Island Institute Fellows program, we help Maine’s coastal communities address today’s pressing issues and partner with them ensure they have the tools they need to thrive in a changing world.
We also support community leaders by helping to make their voices heard on the state and federal policy issues that affect our coastal and island communities, and we are committed to working with legislators, department leaders, and other organizations to raise awareness of these issues and help influence decision-making and long-term support for Maine.
Leadership
Effective local leadership is essential for strong communities. We work to build informed, networked, and supported leaders across the coast of Maine and beyond.
Island Institute Fellows
Fellowships provide a unique opportunity for recent graduates to apply their skills and gain experience in helping communities build sustainability and address the challenges they face.
Scholarships
Island Institute provides financial support for educational, enrichment, and workforce experiences to help prepare island and coastal high school students and young adults for post-secondary education and training opportunities.
Inclusion and Equity
We commit to advancing conversations, understanding, and action around diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice—within our organization and throughout Maine's island and coastal communities.
