Cultivating community-led solutions
Maine’s island and coastal communities have rich traditions of innovation and resiliency. They solve tricky problems, adapt to change, and work collectively to shape their futures. Our remote, rural towns, however, are facing increasing challenges. This includes disruptions to traditional industries, which impact livelihoods; resource availability for students and businesses; access to high speed internet; the impacts of climate change; and much more.
To support communities addressing these challenges, we work collaboratively on a variety of projects, from our Island Institute Fellows program, to grants and scholarships, to advocating for local and state policies. By connecting individuals and businesses with placed-based tools, solutions, and people ready to lend a hand, we are helping island and coastal regions create vibrant and sustainable futures.
